The Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX) is a regulated market that links buyers and sellers of agricultural commodities and other commodities to trade under Rules , assuring the market quality, quantity and timely settlement of their trade. The GCX vision is to transform the economy of Ghana by using innovative and modern technology to support value chains, creating opportunities and wealth for them. GCX is located in Accra, Ghana, but its business operations cover Ghana and the West Africa region.

 

In order to achieve its aim the GCX would like to recruit passionate, motivated, hardworking and qualified applicants for the following positions :

 

 

TITLE DESCRIPTION MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

 

1. Collateral Management Partner The GCX requires as part of its operational activities, the services of a collateral management firm to carry out the services of inspection and certification at its specified warehouses.

 

The key tasks involve conducting periodic  testing of commodities, verification of commodities, inspection of commodities held in trust for GCX members or financial institutions and writing reports.

 

 

The firm should have:

·         At least 10 years experience in stock management in Ghana or sub-Sahara African.

·         Experience working in the grains, legumes and pulses value chains

·         Familiarization with warehouse management practices in Ghana or sub-sahara Africa.

·         Familiarization with the processes and procedures of the Ghana Standard Authority is an advantage

 

 

2.

 

Assistant Manager, Business Development

Working under the direction of the Business Development Manager, and directly with all Exchange functions nationally and regionally, he/she shall work to improve the Exchange’s market position, achieve revenue growth and expand financial position. He / she will also assist to build the Exchange’s warehouse business, develop banking relations, identify business opportunities, negotiate, and close business deals on behalf of the Exchange.

 

 

·      At least a Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Agri-business, Economics or related fields

·         At least five years ( 5 ) years post  qualification work experience

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

·         Proven analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities

·         Very thorough knowledge of the general business environment in Ghana particularly agri-business, agricultural value chain, commodity trading, research

 

3. Assistant Manager, Warehouse Operations and Quality Control Manager Working under the direction of the Warehouse Operations and Quality Control Manager he / she shall assist in delivering the warehousing operations and quality management solution for the Exchange.

 

 

·         Master degree in Post-harvest management, Agri-business, Agriculture sciences, Storage Management, Warehouse Receipts is a must.

·         At least five ( 5 ) years related work experience including work done after first degree qualification

·         Extensive knowledge of warehousing management, warehouse receipts and farmer linkage program a must.

·         Familiarity with food safety, quality control, grain moisture content, pest control, bagging, stores management, weighing, drying, cleaning and all commodity quality control practices a must.

·         Familiarity with stock  handling, dispatch, new Ghana legislation on storage; enforcing adherence to warehousing standards; budgeting, stock planning, deposites etc.

·         Extensive skills in staff Supervision, developing  budgets, Safety Management, Developing Standards, Managing Processes, Surveillance Skills, Inventory Control, Reporting Skills, Analyzing Information , Equipment Maintenance etc

4. Grain Samplers Responsible for the sampling, recording and storage of representative commodity in accordance with the Ghana National Standards. Specifically he / she will

Inspect grains, Prepare processing equipment, and facilities, arrange consignment and take representative of the consignment to ensure compliance with regulations and laws governing Ghana health, quality, and safety.

 

  • Minimum Senior High School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and comprehend Ghana Standard Authority directives, notices, rules and regulations as well as policies and procedures on weighting of grains.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgement, tact, and withstand stressful situations with an emphasis on excellent customer service.
  • Ability to detect odors and other conditions that render grain unfit for human consumption.
  • Ability to visually examine grain for grading analysis.

 

5. Grain Graders Responsible for the grading, recording and storage of representative commodity sample in accordance to GHANA National Standards.

Specifically he / she will examine representative samples of all commodity deliveries and grade them. Properties that are analyzed include: moisture, protein, siftings, and hectoliter mass, insufficient seeds, and infections of mould, harmful seeds, foreign materials and grain insects. Certain loads may be rejected after analysis. He / she shall sort commodity into different classes and grades, ensuring that different grades and classes are stored separately and ensure the availability and soundness of grading equipment

 

  • Minimum Senior High School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and comprehend Ghana Standard Authority directives, notices, rules and regulations as well as policies and procedures on weighting of grains.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgement, tact, and withstand stressful situations with an emphasis on excellent customer service.
  • Ability to detect odors and other conditions that render grain unfit for human consumption.
  • Ability to visually examine grain for grading analysis.

 

6. Grain Weighers Responsible for the weighing of commodities in GCX designated warehouses. Specifically, he / she shall weighs grains and other agricultural commodities at GCX warehouses, obtain samples of grain and commodities from truck containers and other conveyances for inspection, examine grains and other commodities, records gross and net weights and maintains records and documentation of scale conditions and weighing activities.

He / she shall check weights for compliance with GCX contracts and ensure that all scales are calibrated and tested for standard weighing

 

  • Minimum Senior High School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and comprehend Ghana Standard Authority directives, notices, rules and regulations as well as policies and procedures on weighting of grains.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
